Shimla

One of the best hill towns in India, Shimla was once the summer capital of British India.

The town has preserved its colonial buildings and churches very well. Today it is the capital of hill state Himachal. Walking is the best way to explore the hill town and feel the place. Vice Regal Lodge, Ridge, Mall are places worth visiting. Journey on narrow gauge (762mm) Kalka Shimla Railway, A UNESCO World Heritage site, is a must. The track built a decade ago has 103 tunnels traversed from 656m to 2075 meters in just more than 5hrs. Although favourite among both Indian and foreigners, the best time to visit Shimla is from mid-Nov to March. The hill town experiences snowfall in peak winter, and the temperature varies from 3- 10* during the day.
