At Immerse India, travel is about connection with culture, people, and nature. We recognise that tourism has an environmental impact, and as a responsible travel company in India, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint, measuring our progress, and reporting our climate action transparently.

It is a daily practice. To honour our commitment under the Glasgow Declaration, we work closely with our partners and local NGOs to measure emissions, minimise environmental impact, and continuously improve our practices.
It focuses on reducing the intensity of greenhouse gas emissions across our operations and itineraries while promoting responsible tourism and sustainable travel practices, built around three priorities: accurately measuring emissions, reducing their intensity across journeys, and educating partners and travellers to take climate action.
Through this approach, we aim to make travel a force for positive change, protecting destinations' heritage, empowering communities, and contributing to a more resilient future.
As proud signatories of the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism, we align our work with global climate goals and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring every journey reflects our commitment to sustainable travel for people, planet, and future generations.
– Ujjwal, Founder Immerse India Tours
Our approach to climate action is simple and practical: measure what matters, reduce what we can, and engage everyone involved. By combining data-driven decisions with responsible tourism design and collective action, we turn intention into meaningful impact.
We monitor energy use, travel, and workplace activities to measure our direct emissions. This includes electricity consumption, heating and cooling, company vehicles, and business travel.
Each trip is assessed for emissions generated by ground transport, stays, local activities, and other high-impact areas, such as bus routes, hotel energy use, or excursion activities.
We measure the environmental performance of our supply chain partners, including hotels, activity providers, and local operators, for a sustainable travel.
- Adopted energy-efficient systems, smart lighting, remote-first policies
- Encourage paperless operations and sustainable workplace practices
- Launch slow travel, optimised routing, low-carbon transport options
- Trips emphasise fewer destinations, longer stays, and locally-led experiences
- We partner with hotels, activity providers, and local operators those following energy, water, and waste management standards
- Work with hotels, activity providers, and local operators to embed sustainability practices
- Share knowledge, best practices, and measurable targets with staff and partners
- Guide travellers on low-carbon choices, eco-friendly hotels, and responsible travel behavior
- Integrate sustainability into the travel experience
- Invest in verified carbon reduction projects: reforestation, renewable energy, and community-based conservation
- Ensure transparency, impact, and alignment with visited communities
- Track, measure, and publicly report all emissions reduction and offset initiatives
- Annual disclosure ensures accountability and continuous improvement
| Category | Scope | Annual Emissions (tCO₂e) | Notes |
| Office Operations | Scope 1 & 2 | 9 | Electricity (~5), commuting & minor fuel (~4) |
| Ground Transport | Scope 3 | 300 | Cars, buses, trains across trips |
| Accommodation | Scope 3 | 240 | Hotels & homestays |
| Activities & Excursions | Scope 3 | 30 | Local tours, guides, experiences |
| Total Non-Air Emissions | Scope 1, 2 & 3 | 579 | Baseline year 2025, 2000 pax |
*We have already reduced energy consumption by operating in an office with abundant natural light, optimising electricity usage, and implementing flexible work policies such as work-from-home and rotating shifts. For our team of 20 full-time staff, the average CO₂ emissions is 5 tCO₂e per employee per year.
A detailed snapshot of emissions from operations and on-ground travel experiences, forming the foundation for responsible tourism and our climate action roadmap.
| Target Area | Metric | 2030 Goal | Rationale |
| Non-Air Footprint | tCO₂e per FTE | 4 tCO₂e (‑10%) | Reduces emissions mindfully while allowing business growth |
| Passenger Itineraries | tCO₂e per pax/day | Reduce by 30% | Encourages slow travel and low-impact experiences |
| Office Operations | tCO₂e | 10% reduction | Implement energy efficiency, remote work, renewable power |
| Supplier Engagement | % Suppliers reporting emission reduction | 50% | Influence Scope 3 footprint via hotels, transport, activities |
| Public Reporting | Annual disclosure | Yes | Transparency and accountability |
Looking to the future, we have set ambitious targets for 2030 to reduce, manage, and transform our non-air travel emissions while promoting responsible tourism practices. By implementing these measures, we aim to lower our corporate emissions intensity by 10% as our business grows.
